Commander Sipos
obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University
of Manitoba in 1995, graduated from the Canadian Forces’ Command
and Staff College in 1997, and received a Master’s Degree in
Political Science from Dalhousie University in 1999.
Since joining the navy in 1978, Commander Sipos’ sea postings
have included Deck Officer and Assistant Weapons Officer in HMCS SAGUENAY
from 1981-1982, Executive Officer in HMC Ships MIRAMICHI and FUNDY
from 1983-1985, Communications and Assistant Weapons Officer in HMCS
KOOTENAY from 1986-1987, Operations and Combat Officer in HMCS IROQUOIS
from 1989-1991, and Executive Officer of HMCS MONTREAL from 2001-2003
during its deployment to the Arabian Gulf as Flag Ship for Operation
APOLLO. His shore postings have included four staff tours at the National
Defence Headquarters in Ottawa where he served as the Operations Requirements
Officer in the Tribal Class Destroyer Update and Modernization Project
from 1992-1993, and as a Planning Officer in the office of the Director
General Military Plans and Operations from 1994–1996. In 2000,
he was assigned the duties of Staff Officer 2 to the Chief of the
Defence Staff, and on promotion to his present rank in June, 2003
was appointed to the staff of the Directorate of Maritime Strategy.
Commander Sipos assumed Command of HMCS REGINA on 06 October 2004.
